the concours
The heart of uniques special ones® is The Unique Cars International Concours, dedicated to collectors who own cars of which only one was built or remains today: one-off models, the remaining cars from extremely limited productions, prototypes, concept and show cars, famous cars (those that belonged to famous owners, those that gained fame through their participation in historical events, or cars with a first or last chassis number) and limited edition models (fewer than 20 units built or remaining) are the categories that have been defined for determining eligibility.
The concept has been developed so as to be easily exported with its format on an international level. Exclusivity is a feature defining the whole concept of the event. The format of the concours has thus been conceived to host both luxury and sports car manufacturers as well as coachbuilders: the only binding term for the cars presented is that they be aligned with the concept of uniques.
Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, BMW, Bugatti, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz and Rolls Royce chose to be part of the 2011 event, and the area devoted to Zagato won high praises, with 26 cars designed by the celebrated Milanese Atelier illustrating the considerable contribution the company has made and continues to make to the automobile world. Never in the coachbuilder's history had it been possible to admire so high a number of Zagatos at one time: President Andrea Zagato moved among the creations of his Atelier for two whole days. There was the Aston Martin V12 Zagato prototype, the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale (never before seen in Europe), along with several legendary models that left their mark on the brand's sports heritage (like the legendary Alfetta 159 driven by Juan Manuel Fangio in 1951 when he won the Formula 1 Championships). Various 'Neoclassical' models built between 2000 and 2010 for the best brands in the world were also in attendance.
Following Castagna and Zagato, whose creations were featured in dedicated areas at the 2010 and 2011 events, next year's themed areas will be devoted to Bertone and Touring Superleggera, two great coachbuilders that shaped the history of the automobile and have always carried out specially requested projects, custom-made for their clients.
Beginning in 2012, meanwhile, a new, important project will enrich the event: the uniques International register, a register that exclusively catalogues unique cars, recognizing their worth and exceptionality on an international level. The admission criteria are the same as those for the uniques Concours, and a jury of experts will make the selections; all cars that have already participated in uniques special ones® will be entered into the register automatically. Initially, the uniques International register will only be aimed at cars, later opening up to other collector items, from watches to yachts.
Attendance at the event is only open to participants and to those who succeed in attaining one of the 500 day access passes made available to the public each day of the event.
Eligible cars were selected by a committee, which also grouped each vehicle into a specific class: an international panel of judges was in charge of awarding the prizes for each class, while some historic cars and all new cars were voted for exclusively by the public.
